Iran’s Nursing Association has boycotted Day of Nurses in protest to the health ministry’s neglect of their professional demands an failing to remedy the nursing shortage all across the country. The ministry reports that it faces a shortage of 7 thousand nurses and a budget shortage that impedes the need to hire more nurses.

Head of Nursing Association Mohammad Sharifi Moghaddam says Iranian nurses have migrated to neighbouring countries such as Turkey and Qatar where they find better working conditions and added that the minister of health is unresponsive to the demands of the nursing profession.

In a report on Ana News Agency Sharifi Moghaddam said they have made their demands known to President Rohani but so far his administration has not taken any steps to address the issues.

He added that they will not be celebrating the Day of Nurses in reaction to the Minister of Health’s neglect of the concerns of this profession.
